Frequently Asked Questions
How much does home care cost?
The cost of home care depends on the schedule, visit length, location, and type of assistance your loved one needs. Longer shifts and ongoing schedules may be priced differently from shorter or occasional visits.
Because every care plan is different, we do not use a one-size-fits-all online rate. In most cases, a brief conversation is enough for us to provide an initial cost estimate. You will receive clear pricing before deciding whether to move forward—there is no obligation to begin services.
HopeBridge accepts private pay and may also work with long-term care insurance and eligible VA benefits. Other funding options may be available depending on the service.
Call us at (509) 452-0509 for current rates or request a personalized estimate. Even if you are unsure how much care is needed, our team can help you explore the options.
Are caregivers background-checked?
Yes. Every HopeBridge caregiver completes a comprehensive screening process before being allowed into a home to provide care.
Our screening includes state and federal background checks, fingerprint-based checks when required, identity verification, and checks against state and federal exclusion lists for individuals prohibited from participating in publicly funded care programs.
We also conduct thorough personal and professional reference checks. Background screening is only one part of our process—we look closely at each applicant’s experience, reliability, judgment, and ability to provide care with patience and compassion.
These safeguards help us select caregivers whom we would feel comfortable welcoming into the homes of our own loved ones.
How do you choose what caregiver to send?
We thoughtfully match each client with a caregiver based on several important factors:
• The caregiver’s skills and experience compared with the client’s care needs
• The client’s requested schedule and the caregiver’s availability
• The personalities and communication styles of both the client and caregiver
• Personal preferences, such as a request for a female caregiver
• The locations of both the client and caregiver
Safety and the ability to meet the client’s needs always come first, but a successful match is about more than qualifications. We also want the client to feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely connected with the person entering their home.
Sometimes two good people simply aren’t the right fit. If a client is uncomfortable with a caregiver or the relationship is not working well, we encourage the client or family to contact us so we can address the concern and, when appropriate, find a better match. No judgment or guilt, we will just rearrange schedules.
During the first week of service we do ask that caregivers and clients have a chance to settle in before the decision to change staffing is made. Sometimes early on or if a client has not had caregivers before, it takes some time for trust to develop.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
What happens if my parent’s needs increase?
We understand that care needs can change—sometimes gradually and sometimes very quickly. If your loved one needs additional support, we can usually adjust the care plan or increase service hours within 24 hours, depending on caregiver availability and the type of care required.
We also pay attention to whether the current care plan continues to meet the client’s needs. This is especially important when family members live far away and may not see day-to-day changes themselves. If our caregivers or care team notice that your loved one may no longer be safe with the current level of support, we will contact you to discuss what we are seeing and recommend appropriate changes.
Depending on the situation, this may involve changing the tasks in the care plan, adding visits, increasing service hours, or coordinating with other healthcare professionals. Our goal is to respond early and work with your family before a changing need becomes a crisis.
What happens when a caregiver calls out?
HopeBridge has an on-call scheduling team awake and available 24 hours a day. When a caregiver has an emergency and cannot work a scheduled visit, our team immediately begins looking for appropriate coverage.
We work through three levels of priority:
1. A caregiver who already knows the client. We first contact caregivers who regularly work with your loved one, helping make the change as familiar and seamless as possible.
2. Another appropriately qualified caregiver. If a familiar caregiver is unavailable, we contact caregivers who have the skills and experience required to safely follow the client’s care plan.
3. A qualified caregiver whose schedule can be rearranged. When appropriate, we look for opportunities to reorganize existing schedules without compromising another client’s care.
If we cannot secure appropriate coverage, we contact the client and family as soon as possible to discuss the situation and, when possible, adjust the visit time. Based on our scheduling records, fewer than 6% of scheduled visits reach this point.
Although no home-care agency can guarantee that a caregiver will never become ill or experience an emergency, we can promise that HopeBridge will respond promptly, communicate openly, and make every reasonable effort to preserve your loved one’s care.
Will my loved one have one designated caregiver or more than one person?
HopeBridge uses a team approach to caregiving. Rather than relying entirely on one person, we work to build a small, consistent group of caregivers who become familiar with your loved one’s routines, preferences, and care needs. The number of caregivers involved will depend on the schedule and amount of care requested.
This approach provides greater consistency when a caregiver becomes ill, has an emergency, takes time off, or leaves the area. Because another familiar caregiver may already know the client, these changes can be handled with less disruption.
A team also brings more than one perspective to your loved one’s care. Different caregivers may notice different changes, concerns, or unmet needs. By sharing those observations with our care team, we develop a more complete understanding of how the client is doing and whether the care plan continues to meet their needs.
Our goal is to provide familiar, dependable caregivers—not a constantly changing rotation of unfamiliar people.
Can we choose or change our caregiver?
Yes. We consider your loved one’s needs, preferences, personality, and communication style when selecting caregivers. Although we cannot always guarantee a particular caregiver, we will make every reasonable effort to create a comfortable and dependable match.
People are complicated, and sometimes two good people simply are not a good fit. We generally encourage clients and caregivers to allow a little time for trust and familiarity to develop, but you are never expected to remain in an arrangement that feels uncomfortable. A mismatch is not a failure on anyone’s part—it is simply part of working with people.
If the relationship is not working, call us and we will make a staffing change. If you ever have a concern about a caregiver’s conduct, reliability, or the care being provided, please contact us immediately. Our on-call team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Do you provide overnight or 24-hour care?
Yes. HopeBridge provides both overnight and round-the-clock care. Depending on the client’s needs, 24-hour care may be provided in one of two ways:
24-hour awake care uses caregivers working in shifts so someone is awake, alert, and available at all times. This is generally appropriate when a client is likely to need two or more caregiving interventions during an eight-hour overnight period. It may also be appropriate for someone at risk of falling or getting out of bed without assistance, wandering at night, or being unable to reliably communicate their needs.
Live-in care is used less frequently and includes designated sleeping and meal breaks for the caregiver in the client’s home. It may be appropriate when the client has a low risk of needing immediate, hands-on assistance overnight and the home can provide suitable sleeping accommodations for the caregiver.
We assess each situation carefully because live-in care is not appropriate for everyone. Our team will help your family determine which arrangement provides the right balance of safety, support, and cost.
How is home care different from home health or hospice?
Although these services may all be provided in someone’s home, they serve different purposes.
Home care provides ongoing, nonmedical assistance with daily life. HopeBridge caregivers may help with bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, transportation, and supervision. Care can range from a few scheduled visits each week to round-the-clock support.
Home health provides clinical services ordered by a healthcare provider, such as skilled nursing, wound care, medication teaching, or physical, occupational, and speech therapy. These services are generally provided through periodic visits rather than continuous caregiving.
Hospice provides comfort-focused medical care and emotional support for someone with a terminal illness. The hospice team manages symptoms, medications, equipment, and care related to the terminal condition. Hospice does provide bath aids to assist with bathing but does not provide continuous help with everyday activities in the home.
HopeBridge home care can work alongside a home health or hospice provider. For example, hospice may manage pain and symptoms while a HopeBridge caregiver assists with personal care, prepares meals, provides supervision, and gives family members assistance and peace of mind.
If you are unsure which service your loved one needs, call HopeBridge at (509) 452-0509. We can help you understand the differences and identify the type of support that may be appropriate.
How quickly can services begin?
The time needed to begin services depends on the client’s care needs, location, requested schedule, and caregiver availability.
In urgent situations, HopeBridge can often complete the assessment, develop a care plan, and begin services within 48 hours. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can evaluate the situation and determine what coverage is available.
For planned care, we ask families to contact us at least four business days before the desired start date. This gives us time to understand your loved one’s needs, thoughtfully select caregivers, and build a more consistent care team from the beginning.
If you are facing a hospital discharge, sudden change in condition, or unexpected loss of family support, call HopeBridge at (509) 452-0509. We will let you know promptly what we can arrange.
Does Medicare pay for home care?
Can you work with long-term care insurance?
Yes. HopeBridge works with all long-term care insurance companies, and our team can help you initiate a claim and navigate the process.
We can assist with contacting the insurance company, understanding the claim requirements, and providing the documentation needed to verify services. Because benefits, elimination periods, and eligibility requirements vary by policy, the insurance company makes the final coverage determination.
Call HopeBridge at (509) 452-0509 and have your policy information available. We’ll help you understand the next steps and make the process as straightforward as possible.
